"Geek Dad" by Ken Denmead

Looking to ensure your protege is raised to be a heir of your geekdom?  Checkout "Geek Dad" by Ken Denmead (of the Wired.com GeekDad column) for dozens of ideas of inspiring the geek culture of exploring, making, gaming, tinkering and countless other traits that helps lead to a long and fulfilling life.  Some of my personal favorites is replacing the traditional "chores board" with an RPG-esque game to help ensure good grades, helping around the house, and other good behaviors.

The real guts of the book though is the projects you can do TOGETHER, and I think that is the key.  It's not just introducing kids through demonstration but rather full-blown, hands on fun throughout the creative process.  Project like LED firefly, balloon camera, and outdoor entertainment center are but a few of the treasures you will find inside.  I think many geek dads (and okay, geek moms too) will appreciate the hands-on approach that fills the void that kids just don't get today in school, especially in the American culture of "teach to the test".

Run on over to Amazon to pick your copy up for $11.56.  I picked mine up on the nook for $9.99.   They also have a companion website, geekdadbook.com.

The writing on the wall is clear for all to see that Free VoIP telephone services and IP telephony are emerging globally as the latest technology in communications. Many large companies are switching over to VOIP telephone systems to interact more regularly with international customers without the need to pay extra long-distance cost.
